I haven’t been posting for a while because since I took on the Directorship of the second company, I’ve been drowning in day-to-day accounting tasks which have not only been taking up all my time but have also been boring me senseless.
It looks like I’m finally getting a break in the shape of a management accountant from a company the group has just acquired. She’s almost passed her CIMA qualifications but has very little experience and she is both overpaid and under-utilized in the small company she is working for. I have suggested and had agreement from the owners and other directors that she can move to our head office and start getting involved in some of the group accounting functions currently carried out by yours truly. Hopefully this will release me to work on the strategic and commercial projects which have been taking a back seat recently.
I never wanted to be an accountant and I refuse to become one. The tedious number crunching involved is too repetitive and requires no vision or flair. I’m itching to get into real projects, technical, commercial and financial which will impact the group in a more positive way. I have literally been drowning in crap for the last five months and it’s time to hand some of that off down the management chain where it belongs!
So, in the coming weeks and months I hope to be posting more frequently.
